US Priorities at the 68th UN General Assembly

Join UNA-NCA, UNA-USA, the State Department, and the Better World Campaign for this lunch and panel discussion

For 68 years, the annual opening of the UN General Assembly has served to focus global attention on pressing issues and enduring challenges. This year’s General Assembly will convene with the member states, including the US. They will prepare their delegations for high-level diplomacy on matters related to development, peace and security issues, regional conflicts including Syria, human rights, climate change, the state of multilateral diplomacy, Post-2015 agenda, and a more effective UN system. This briefing is cosponsored by Congressman Mark Meadows and Congresswoman Barbara Lee’s offices.

Sarah Glenn, an accomplished recruiter at TRAK Services, will be at the happy hour to give advice and answer questions regarding our chosen topics. Throughout her two-year tenure she has helped hundreds of individuals find both permanent and temporary positions in countless industries from non-profits and associations to major DC businesses and corporations.  She works with these individuals to design intentional career moves and coaches on resume and interview techniques.  In order to reach a broader audience, Sarah also shares career, networking, and job searching advice through her top read blog on Cloture Club and hosts events through Beers and Careers.  Sarah is from Carlisle, Pennsylvania and a graduate of Dickinson College.

    • Wade Channell, Senior Legal Advisor, US Agency for International Development (USAID)

    As the Senior Legal Reform Advisor for the USAID, Channell has had extensive experience in his field. After finishing law school, he pursued a career in international commercial transactions in both Brazil and New York. He entered the field of legal reform and economic development. His focus is on the intersection of law and business - the business enabling environment - which he addresses from the perspective of rule of law and governance. He has been instrumental in USAID's commercial, legal, and institutional reform (CLIR) diagnostic methodology for identifying policy and institutional constraints to prosperity.

    He also works in the field of agricultural and agribusiness policy, gender equity, and access to finance, including secured lending. He has lived in Brazil, Mississippi, Guinea-Bissau, Croatia, and Belgium, and has worked in more than 50 countries on five continents. He teaches international management and private sector development at George Washington University part-time.
