Carol_LaborsDr. Carol is Doctor of Public Health with over 29 years combined professional experience, with 11 years in international development in Sierra Leone, West Africa (education and psychosocial programs in post war, natural disasters, and complex trauma settings); and as a Senior Consultant and Permanent Representative to the United Nations ECOCSOC 2015-Present.

Dr. Carol is an award winning Scholar-Practitioner and Subject Matter Expert, Advocate, Consultant, Educator, Public Speaker, Coach, Researcher, and Trainer in the areas of public mental health program planning and development for vulnerable populations such as immigrants and refugees, women and girls, children

Dr. Carol’s professional experience includes convening survivor-centered (gender-based violence) mental health and psychosocial support service groups for gender-based violence survivors (SA/SV, DV, and IPV); and social and emotional learning (SEL) groups for girls in communities of color inclusive in or from Low-and-Middle-Income Countries (LMIC) including, but not limited to Sierra Leone, Liberia, Haiti, Ghana, Turkey, Syria, China, Jamaica, Mexico, and Iraq.

Fueled by her lived experience with sexual assault and trauma, Dr. Carol’s advocacy and research is grounded in the intersectionality of race and health disparities in mental health services, trauma, and gender-based violence (GBV) in multicultural and multilingual communities .
