Alex Remmel is a passionate human rights advocate, with a background in international relations, government, communications and NGO work. A second-year International Affairs Master’s student at the George Washington University, Alex is pursuing his concentration in Global Governance (International Law and Organizations) and focuses his studies around global human rights, peacebuilding and diplomacy. He is particularly interesting in policy reform and social advocacy concerning the rights of indigenous people, ethnic minorities, refugees and diaspores members. He previously completed his Bachelor’s in Public Communication (Marketing Minor) from American University in 2016.
Alex has been a member with UNA since Spring of 2024 and has attended multiple key events, including Model-ILO, where he was awarded as an outstanding delegate, the Leadershop Summit, Career Dinners and the Annual Meeting.
In his years leading up to graduate school, Alex served as a Constituent Services Specialist for the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General, working under both Josh Shapiro and Michelle Henry’s administrations. While there, he fielded the inquiries and concerns of thousands of Pennsylvanians on a daily basis, and was forced to provide creative solutions beyond simple government resources and referrals. From this position, he built up a strong foundational understanding of government operations and honed his interpersonal skills. Prior work experience has included sales/leasing in commercial real estate and brand management in marketing, among other ventures.
As a volunteer, he served as the 2019 Chair for his local Harrisburg Young Professionals Arts and International Committee, where he helped organize new and existing events, partnered with local groups and, in particular, developed the committee’s “international” components. Additional committees where he serves as a member include the Community Relations Council for his local Jewish Federation, where he discusses major human rights issues and helps vote on related national legislation each month, as well as their Young Adult Division, where he has previously organized an awareness and engagement event with his local POC community around police brutality and racial issues.
Alex has completed certificate work in peacebuilding, negotiation, and development through UNITAR, Columbia Law and USIP, was a 2024 HPAIR Delegate for Harvard, and also speaks multiple languages including Spanish, French and Italian, among others.
