We are a not-for-profit, membership-based organization that works with foreign policy and political decision makers, schools of all levels, and other organizations to build knowledge, understanding, informed opinion, and new ideas on the United Nations, its specialized agencies, and its relationship with the United States.
Through advocacy, outreach, education, and networking, the primary mission of UNA-NCA is to raise public awareness of the UN and to advocate for its increased competence. Our members organize participatory visits to Capitol Hill to meet with members of Congress to promote US support for the UN and to encourage interaction with our legislature. We offer various workshops, conferences, and seminars on the UN and related foreign policy issues. Our outreach efforts with non-governmental organizations, universities, and other public forums are aimed to broaden the UN's support base in the DC area, and build a practical understanding of global affairs and the UN's objectives. We promote an international affairs education with our Global Classrooms DC program for high school and middle school aged students and teachers through in-class lessons, volunteer opportunities, and Model UN conferences. We provide an opportunity to develop contacts while building a broader constituency for the UN through Young Professionals (YP) program.
UNA-NCA is one of the largest chapter of the United Nations Association of the United States of America (UNA-USA), which is part of the World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA).

UNA-NCA is one of the largest chapter of the United Nations Association of the United States of America (UNA-USA), which is part of the World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA).
While the United Nations can only have state nations as their members, United Nations Associations allow individuals to become members. United Nations Associations have a local focus and are non-profit organizations that build support for the United Nations. UNA-NCA is an accredited 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization. We are not a part of the UN system, though we do work closely with many UN agencies in the greater Washington area. UNA-USA and UNA-NCA do not receive any funding from the UN.
The UNA-NCA office is located near Dupont Circle. The address is 2000 P Street, Suite 630, Washington DC 20036, USA. The closest Metro station is Dupont Circle on the Red Line (North Exit).

Global Classrooms® DC (GCDC) brings international education to more than 1000 students in underserved urban public schools in the DC area though in-class lessons and Model UN conferences.
At the heart of GCDC is an engaging curriculum that introduces students to international issues like peacekeeping, compromise, sustainable development, and human rights while building essential life skills such as reading, writing, and public speaking. GCDC also organizes the annual Model UN Conference at the US Department of State, the culmination of the program's efforts. Previous speakers at this conference include Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Ambassador Negroponte, and Under-Secretary of Public Diplomacy, Karen Hughes.

Most of the time, the United Nations can only help individuals who feel that their human rights have been violated if the individuals have gone to the furthest end of their countries judicial system. For example, in the United States, a person would have to take their case to the Supreme Court and feel that their human rights are still violated before seeking assistance from the United Nations. Any current UNA-NCA vacancies are announced in our electronic newsletter and our front page news feed. UNA-NCA has only four staff members so it's quite rare for a paid position to be open. However, we do have openings with our Program Assistant Internship program.
