In recognition of the International Day for People of African Descent on August 31st, UNA-NCA invites members to hear from UNA-USA leader London Bell, to learn more about the UN Permanent Forum for People of African Descent.
The UN declared 2015-2024 as the decade of people of African descent. Congress introduced a resolution recognizing the importance of cooperating with African descent communities and organizations to develop strategies to combat racism domestically and globally. While more can be done, there is still time to recognize the achievements of local communities and support the goals of the UN in advancing the safety and quality of life of people of African descent.
London Bell is a human rights and international law advocate, a leader of UNA-USA Women, and 2020 Fellow for the UN Permanent Forum on People of African Descent. As a fellow she advised UN experts and stakeholders on the unique US perspective on advancing equal rights.
As part of UNA-NCA’s ongoing series on Human Rights, Diversity and Inclusion, we highlight diverse global, national and local leaders advancing human rights and the SDGs.
