Jeff Meer is an international relief and development professional. His last job role was US Executive Director of Humanity & Inclusion, an international NGO that works on disability inclusion and relief in 55 countries. Meer also held international executive and management roles at the Public Health Institute, Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Global Communities and the US Association for UNHCR. He was founding Program Officer for Peace and Security at the United Nations Foundation.
Mr. Meer was a Foreign Service Officer at the US Department of State, serving overseas in the People's Republic of China and Germany. He held positions at the State Department in Washington in the Bureau of Intelligence and Research, and the Bureau for International Organization Affairs. He was a member of the Conference Secretariat that arranged for US Government participation in the Social Summit (Copenhagen 1995), the International Conference on Population and Development (Cairo 1994), and the Fourth World Conference on Women (China 1995), which he attended. He was special assistant for human rights and humanitarian affairs to the UnderSecretary for Global Affairs Timothy Wirth. He received both a meritorious honor award and a superior honor award for his work at the State Department.
Mr. Meer served as President of the NARAL ProChoice Maryland Board of Directors, and received the organization's Choice Advocate of the Year award in 2014.
He began his career as a magazine journalist, writing for Psychology Today magazine, and is the author of Drugs and Sports (Chelsea House, 1987). He is married with two grown children and lives in Silver Spring, MD. In addition to English, Mr. Meer speaks French, German and Cantonese Chinese. He is a graduate (with honors) of Dartmouth College.
