Senior Economist (Retired) International Monetary Fund



Cal retired from the IMF in September 2004, ending a thirty-six-year international career that began in 1968 as a Peace Corps Volunteer (Niger and Morocco). In 1972 he joined the Chase Manhattan Bank International Department in New York, with subsequent assignments in Paris, Geneva, and London. In 1981, on leave from Chase, he assumed a senior position with the Peace Corps in Washington, DC; this led to his appointment in1982 as Assistant to the U.S. Executive Director of the IMF. He joined the African Department in April 1984, rising to the rank of Senior Economist. He served as the IMF Resident Representative in Zaire (now DRC) from 1987 to 1990 and in Mali from 1998 to 2002.

Cal graduated from Kansas State University in 1968 with a dual major (Architecture and Philosophy), where he earned academic honors, was a leader in student government, and was the first African American member of Blue Key National Honor Society. In May 2011, Cal was invited back to give the Commencement Address at the Graduation Ceremony for the Kanas State University College of Architecture Planning and Design.
