Abigail Spangler

Abigail Spangler has over twelve years of experience in gender mainstreaming, youth, and inclusive development. As the Global Associate Director of the Gender Equality Portfolio at Room to Read, she is responsible for strategic direction, technical guidance, and support to programs and custom projects in Africa, South Asia, and Southeast Asia. Prior to joining Room to Read, Abigail supported gender mainstreaming on programs and projects in the agriculture and health sectors. She worked in Malaysia, providing humanitarian aid to Rohingya refugees, and in Peru as a youth development specialist, working alongside the Peruvian Ministry of Education to design educational support programs for youth to keep them in school and graduate. She holds a BA in political science from the University of Oregon and an MA in cross-cultural communications and international relations from Newcastle University.
