The United Nations Association of the National Capital Area (UNA-NCA) is now accepting applications for the position of Executive Assistant Intern (“Executive Assistant”) in the office of the UNA-NCA President and Chair of the UNA-USA National Council.

UNA-NCA is an independent 501(c)(3) that works in partnership with UN agencies, the United Nations Association of the USA (UNA-USA), and dozens of partners in the Washington metropolitan region. UNA-NCA is not a division of the United Nations.

Internship Overview

15-25 hours/week


The Executive Assistant position is a part-time, unpaid internship opportunity available to current and recent graduate students in the Greater Washington area. The minimum duration of the internship is three months, with the potential for an extension. The intern will operate in either a partially or fully remote capacity.

As a member of the President’s Office, the Executive Assistant will engage across the organization, enhancing UNA-NCA’s administrative, operational, financial, and programmatic foundations while gaining experience working at DC-based non-profit. The Executive Assistant serves as a liaison to the Board of Directors and senior management, organizes and coordinates executive outreach and external relations efforts, and oversees special projects. The candidate must be creative and enjoy working within a small, entrepreneurial environment that is mission-driven, results-driven and community oriented.


Position Responsibilities

  • Completes a broad variety of administrative tasks that facilitate the President’s ability to effectively lead the organization, including management of an active calendar of appointments, composing and preparing correspondence, arranging itineraries and agendas, notetaking, and compiling/distributing documents for meetings
  • Prepares, reviews, and revises reports and documents for internal and external constituents. Drafts drafting letters/emails, personal correspondence, and other communications
  • Produces donor acknowledgements letters for President’s signature
  • Assists with event planning and execution
  • Use CRM platform to document, track, and report on various organizational developments
  • Reviews internal procedures and recommends needed changes. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Organized – able to maintain follow-through on multiple overlapping action items
  • Proactive – takes the initiative, asks questions, and looks to be helpful
  • Strong organizational skills that reflect ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks seamlessly while maintaining excellent attention to detail
  • Proficient with, or willing to learn: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Power Point), Google Suite, Canva, eTapestry, Slack, and Zoom
  • Proficient typing skills – averaging of 40+ WPM.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with stakeholders, including staff, board members, external partners and donors
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Maintains discretion and confidentiality in relationships with all Board members
