Yasmine is a first-year Master’s student at Georgetown University, specializing in International Migration and Refugees. Passionate about human rights, forced displacement, and migration, she focuses on the intersection of these issues with conflict in the Middle East and Africa. She is particularly interested in climate-driven migration, with the Sahel emerging as a critical hotspot. Yasmine’s exposure to global issues and displacement is deeply personal, shaped by her upbringing as an Algerian American. Growing up, she witnessed the struggles of Sub-Saharan African migrants and refugees in Algeria and Syrian refugees in Houston. Her academic journey into global affairs began in high school through Model UN, where she developed a basic understanding of the United Nations' work. Alongside her studies, Yasmine serves as fundraising director for a refugee resettlement agency supporting West African refugees and volunteers with the Immigration and Refugee Outreach Center, assisting refugees with assimilation.
